His father was a government employee. Before moving to Mumbai, the actor was brought up in Delhi. He did his schooling at Don Bosco School and then Guru Nanak Khalsa College. Before venturing out the field of acting. Akshay Kumar studied martial arts in Bangkok and also has worked as a chef. After getting adept in martial arts himself, he came back to Mumbai and started teaching martial arts. After doing few modelling assignments, he was offered a role in the film Deedar in 1992 and that too as the lead actor of the film.
However, it was Saugandh that gave Kumar’s Bollywood career a kick start in 1991 film. After this movie in 1992, came Khiladi in the hands of Akshay. And then it was in 1994 that the actor’s two action films Main Khiladi Tu Anari and Mohra went on to become the highest grossing films of the year. During the same year, Kumar had films like Suhaag and the action film Elaan by his name, that tough were not successful, managed to get Akshay Kumar in the limelight. With the success of Khiladi, the makers thought of its sequels too. In 1995, came the third film in the Khiladi series that has Akshay in the lead role. The actor has received critical acclaim for his roles in the films Sangharsh and Jaanwar that released in 1999.
Akshay Kumar has touched almost all genres of movies and he will be again seen on the screen performing his famous martial arts skills in the Airlift movie. The actor has made his presence at the television level too and has hosted the reality show Dare 2 Dance. In 2015, he acted in the espionage film Baby.
